Description
The tax dispute resolution team at MKS specialises in assisting both internal and external clients with contentious tax disputes, whether it is a compliance visit or an investigation under Code of Practice 9 for suspected tax evasion. We advise clients on how to make voluntary disclosures to HMRC and the best route to resolve matters. Whether this be the Digital Disclosure Service options or the Contractual Disclosure Facility.
We manage enquiries for clients and provide specialist advice on how all aspects of tax enquiries, from start to finish. We will advise and represent clients on their options if there is a disputed tax liability and how to utilise statutory reviews, ADR or appeal to the first-tier tax tribunal.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on whether HMRC have opened a valid enquiry
- Advise on how to best respond to HMRC
- What information should be made available and what HMRC are entitled to ask for
- Provide strategic advice on how to communicate complex issues to HMRC
- Amend tax computations and compute tax liabilities with failure to notify cases
- Advise on penalty mitigation and calculations of penalties due
- Overpayment of tax and how to claim relief
- Contentious tax disputes
