How You'll Make a Difference
Vinney Green Secure Children’s Home offers young people a safe and caring environment where they experience high-quality care, education, recreational facilities, and life skills training. You will play a vital role in the home as a Teacher, we are particularly interested to hear from those who may have experience with Science/Business Studies/PE or PSHE, helping to provide our young people with high quality education.
What You Will Be Doing
- Daily, you will design and implement an engaging curriculum for our young people, helping to promote their personal and educational development.
- As part of the curriculum, you will assist with arrangements for pupils entering external examinations.
- Working alongside colleagues, you will help oversee pupil development and ensure all young people are taught in a safe and secure environment.
- You will be responsible for a tutor group of young people and will help to engage them in meaningful activities.
- Occasionally, you will participate in extra-curricular activities designed to enrich our young people.
What We Need From You
- It is essential you hold qualified teacher status (QTS) and have a strong background in curriculum planning. You will have a solid understanding of how special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and complex trauma can affect educational outcomes.
- It would be advantageous to have experience of teaching science or business studies.
- Given the nature of the role, you must have excellent communication skills with the ability to build positive, supportive relationships with children and young people.
- Please note, this role is not suitable for early career teachers (ECTs) seeking to complete their statutory induction.
What You Need To Know
- The salary is plus a secure unit allowance of £2,583 per annum.
- Education at Vinney Green runs for 50 weeks of the year, only stopping for 2 weeks at Christmas. You can take annual leave at any time, not restricted to traditional school term holiday slots, as long as staffing levels allow.
- Many of our young people have experienced challenging personal histories, which can sometimes lead to periods of dysregulation and expressions of frustration in difficult or disruptive ways. These incidents may occasionally be distressing for those around them. To support emotional wellbeing, both staff and other young people are provided with guidance and additional support to help manage their feelings and responses. To promote a safe environment for everyone, Vinney Green is equipped with surveillance cameras throughout the home.
- Vinney Green operates a full non-smoking environment, and there is no provision to facilitate smoking anywhere on site. Staff’s personal belongings are required to be left in a provided locker on entry into the building and we may require you to undertake a further physical fitness check.
- This role is demanding and there will be some physically active aspects to the job, but we can assure you that this will be one of the most rewarding jobs that you will ever do!
- Please note that due to the nature of this role, an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post.
