The role
Key Responsibilities
- Class Setup and Support: Prepare and organize laboratory classes for anatomical teaching, ensuring that all necessary materials and equipment are available and functioning correctly. Assist faculty and students during practical sessions, fostering an engaging learning environment. The post holder must be physically fit due to the nature of the role
- Cadaver preparation: dissection, preparation and preservation of cadaver material to support teaching, training will be supplied on site for this, although basic anatomy knowledge should be present.
- laboratory Consumables & Specimens: assisting with ordering and collection of teaching supplies and specimens (from a variety of locations) using a UoS van. (Current UK approved driving License must have been held for min 2 years required
- Laboratory Maintenance: Conduct daily maintenance of the Veterinary Anatomy Laboratory, ensuring a clean, safe, and efficient workspace. This includes managing supplies, equipment upkeep, and adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Support to Veterinary Pathology Services & wider vet school: Occasionally assist with the Veterinary Pathology commercial services, working collaboratively with colleagues across the pathology centre and the broader veterinary school. This may involve data entry, specimen management, and logistical support for teaching & pathology-related activities.
Qualifications
About you
- A degree in Veterinary Science, Biological Sciences, or a related field is preferred, but not essential.
- HNC, A level or NVQ 3or equivalent standard in the relevant specialist area is preferred but not essential.
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting, particularly within veterinary or biological sciences, is an advantage.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being self-motivated.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Current UK approved driving License must be held
