The Role
ALS Laboratories are looking for a Team Leader to support their Microbiology department at Trowbridge.
The successful candidate will organise and manage workload within the team to achieve KPIs and meet business goals.
This role requires someone who has a meticulous eye for detail, with strong knowledge of microbiology analysis across a wide range of methods and analytical procedures, and experience managing a team.

Hours Per Week: 44
Days Per Week: 4 on 4 off, 9am – 9pm
Contract: Full Time & Permanent
Salary: £28,237 per annum

The day to day
- Monitor systems to ensure tests and processes are completed on time and in line with client expectations.
- Review sample registration, ensuring all tests, methods, media, and dilutions are appropriate and correctly applied.
- Organise retests or additional testing on retained samples within required timeframes.
- Communicate any delays in turnaround times to laboratory management and clients where necessary.
- Support management with the approval of results and the issuing of out-of-specification reports.
- Oversee team timekeeping, attendance, and behaviour, raising any concerns with management.
- Monitor training levels across the team, ensuring staff are skilled and flexible, and provide training where appropriate.
- Ensure team compliance with all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE), Quality, Regulatory, and Accreditation standards, including internal policies and procedures.
The Essentials
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), including Science, English and Maths.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Able to work independently and manage own workload effectively.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) is an advantage.
