The service and Team
We are seeking 3 experienced and motivated Team Managers to join our leadership team within Public Health Nursing, in Cornwall Council, to lead the daily operations and ongoing development of our dedicated teams. We have full time permanent positions in School Nursing, in the West Area covering Localities 1 & 2 and in Health Visiting in the East covering the Locality 5 team . There is also an opportunity for a 6 month fixed term contract for 37.5 hours per week (6 month secondment for internal applicants) within School Nursing in the Mid, covering Localities 3 & 4.
The Role
This varied and rewarding role requires excellent leadership, flexibility, and a commitment to high standards of care. As Team Manager, you will oversee a group of healthcare practitioners—including Health Visitors, School Nurses, and Community Nurses—providing expert advice, guidance, and troubleshooting across a defined locality. You’ll manage teams responsible for triaging and coordinating caseloads, ensuring the delivery of high-quality health advice and support to children, young people, and their families.
The successful candidate will lead service development aligned with national policy, embed safeguarding best practices, and collaborate closely with colleagues across the Together for Families directorate and external partners. Experience in delivering care through a variety of approaches, including digital solutions to improve access for families, is essential. You will be supported by the Service Manager and work in partnership across Cornwall Council to make a real difference in the lives of children and families, with a strong focus on early intervention and professional supervision.
Working Pattern
We have a 1 FTE (5 days) fixed-term for 6 months band 7 AfC to support the Mid School Nurse Area Team, covering St Austell, Newquay, Roseland, Truro and Falmouth areas
We have a 1 WTE (5 days) permanent band 7 AfC post to support the west School Nurse Area Teams, covering the Redruth, Camborne, Helston, Hayle, St Ives and Penzance areas
We have a 1 WTE (5 days) permanent band 7 AfC post to support the Locality 5 Health Visiting Team, covering, Bodmin, Bude, Wadebridge and Launceston area
What You’ll Need To Succeed
You will need to be a Community Specialist Practitioner in Public Health (BSc Hons) or equivalent in School Nursing / Health Visiting, with active professional registration with the NMC. Candidates should have substantial experience as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN), supported by ongoing professional development, along with a proven background in project management, workforce planning, and/or service development. Comprehensive and current knowledge of commissioned services, safeguarding practices, and family-centred public health approaches is essential, as is experience in leading and managing multidisciplinary teams. Advanced IT proficiency, including expertise in clinical record keeping systems, is also expected. The ability to lead and contribute effectively to service and organisational change initiatives, combined with a strong capacity to perform under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and consistently meet deadlines, is crucial.
