Description
Altrad are currently on the lookout for a Technical Apprentice which will involve an element of academic work with a clear path to becoming a qualified technician within the Altrad Babcock Asset Management team.

Year1Year 2

  • Initial training, approximately 9 months full time at Glasgow Clyde College - Anniesland Campus (August – June)
    • Completion of SVQ Level 2 – Performing Engineering Operations (introduction to the practical aspects of Engineering)
    • HNC Mechanical Engineering
  • On the job training – Renfrew based
  • Mentored placements throughout business
    • Requirement to meet specific competencies
    • Regular reviews by external accreditation/training body
    • Majority of placements based in Renfrew
    • Opportunity for national placements
  • Placements in the following disciplines/areas
    • Non Destructive Testing (NDT)
    • Manufacturing, Testing & Equipment Qualification
    • Integrity Engineering
    • Metallurgy and Welding
  • Further Education
Year 3

  • Completion of Modern Apprenticeship and progress to Assistant Technician
  • Continue Further Education in relevant subject area-Engineering/NDT/Metallurgy (Foundation Degree level)
  • Fully funded and supported by Altrad Babcock
  • Progress to Technician level upon successful completion of Foundation Degree

  • Key Deliverables

    • Attend college classes and examinations/assessments when required
    • Undertake technical activities under the supervision of senior staff
    • Adopt Altrad safety culture in all aspects of working life
    • Maintain personal log book/portfolio to meet requirements of Modern Apprenticeship
    • Support senior staff in the execution of project work as required
    • Meet personal development plans and targets required to follow Technical Apprentice training scheme
      • Attain SVQ2 – Performing Engineering Operations in year 1
      • Attain HNC – Mechanical Engineering in year 1
      • Maintain personal log book/portfolio for SVQ3 (Years 2-3) to meet requirements of Modern Apprenticeship
      • To support senior staff undertaking technical duties at base and/or site as required
      • To meet all health & safety requirements of any work being undertaken
    Key Requirements:

    • 2 Highers / A levels at A-Cfrom Maths (Mandatory), Physics (preferred), Chemistry, English, Graphical Communications or other Technical subject (s) (Achieved or Expected)
    • Preferred, Maths/Physics/English
    • Btech Level 3 National Diploma in Engineering
