Description

Are you a seasoned technical & design leader ready to take ownership of high-impact projects and shape the future of a leading engineering business? At Kilnbridge, we’re seeking an experienced Technical Lead – Steelwork Division to own the technical strategy and ensure best-in-class solutions across all phases of steelwork delivery. Including structural design, fabrication methodology, welding specifications, site installation planning, buildability reviews, and CDM compliance.

You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, integrate design and commercial decisions, and ensure that every project is technically robust, commercially viable, and safe to build. This is a high-influence role for a strategic leader who thrives on turning complex challenges into safe, efficient, and cost-effective solutions.

Why Kilnbridge?

We take on some of the UK’s most complex engineering and construction challenges and we do it with precision, integrity, and purpose. As an employee-owned business, every team member has a personal stake in our success. That means your leadership directly influences our growth, culture, and reputation.

We live by our values: Responsibility, Integrity, Teamwork, and Excellence. If you’re a leader who embodies these principles, you’ll thrive here.

What You’ll Be doing?

You’ll shape the technical strategy for our steelwork division, ensuring best-in-class solutions across structural design, fabrication, welding, and site installation. Your role will include:

  • Leading the steelwork technical strategy across multiple projects
  • Overseeing structural design, calculations, and detailing with buildability in mind
  • Approving fabrication drawings, welding procedures (WPS), and inspection/test plans
  • Ensuring compliance with Eurocodes, BS EN 1090, BS EN ISO 3834, and CDM regulations
  • Integrating design with fabrication and erection methodology to maximise safety and efficiency
  • Reviewing lifting plans, erection sequencing, and site method statements
  • Aligning technical decisions with commercial strategy alongside estimators and quantity surveyors
  • Managing design programmes, resources, and risk registers
  • Mentoring engineers and designers to build technical capability across the division
  • Championing innovation in BIM, digital engineering, and steelwork processes

In this role, you’ll shape the technical culture of the steelwork division, drive early-stage buildability reviews to reduce risk. You will be responsible for overseeing the full technical lifecycle from design to final bolt-up, ensuring the highest levels of quality and compliance in fabrication, welding, and on-site erection.

What You’ll Bring

You’ll have a degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, ideally with chartered status (CEng, MIStructE, or equivalent). With extensive experience in steelwork design, fabrication, welding, and site installation, and a strong grasp of buildability, temporary works, and erection sequencing.

You’ll be confident aligning technical decisions with commercial strategy, and well-versed in CDM Regulations and health and safety leadership. Strong project management skills, a focus on risk and continuous improvement, and the ability to lead, communicate, and engage stakeholders effectively round out your profile.

What We Offer

  • Employee-owned – every team member shares in our success.
  • Competitive salary + car allowance.
  • Profit share bonus (tax-free up to £3,600 annually).
  • Private medical insurance, enhanced pension, and death in service cover.
  • 25 days holiday + paid volunteer day + flexible working options.
  • Opportunity to lead on landmark UK infrastructure and steelwork projects.
  • High-performing, values-led culture with serious ambition.
