The Technical Lead will be responsible for driving technical excellence, ensuring robust design
solutions, and maintaining a sharp commercial focus across projects. Working closely with design,
engineering, and commercial teams—including quantity surveyors and estimators—you will manage design programmes, navigate technical challenges, and support cost-effective, compliant project delivery. This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and exceptional communication skills to align technical outputs with client requirements, contractual obligations, and overall business objectives.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Technical Direction & Oversight:
- Define and guide the technical strategy for multiple projects, ensuring alignment with business
goals.
- Oversee the creation, review, and approval of design documentation, engineering calculations,
and specifications.
- Design & Commercial Integration:
- Collaborate closely with quantity surveyors, estimators, and commercial teams to ensure
design decisions are cost-effective, competitive, and meet contractual standards.
- Evaluate and manage design changes, variations, and value engineering opportunities,
ensuring clear communication to clients and stakeholders and proper documentation.
- Programme Management:
- Develop and maintain detailed design programmes that integrate seamlessly with overall project schedules.
- Allocate resources—both internal and external—to meet milestones and ensure timely, high-quality design deliverables.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and motivate a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, designers, and technicians, fostering professional growth and continuous improvement.
- Encourage a collaborative, innovative culture that is open to new technologies, methodologies, and problem-solving approaches.
- Stakeholder & Client Engagement:
- Serve as a key liaison with clients, architects, suppliers, and other project stakeholders, ensuring their needs are understood and addressed.
- Represent the company in meetings, workshops, and industry forums, building trust and credibility through technical expertise and transparent communication.
- Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
- Advance the use of BIM, digital engineering tools, and streamlined workflows to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Integrate lessons learned and feedback into ongoing design processes, reducing rework and improving future outcomes.
- Risk Management & Compliance:
- Identify and mitigate technical risks, ensuring compliance with British Standards, Eurocodes, health and safety regulations, and environmental responsibilities.
- Balance technical integrity with commercial imperatives, ensuring solutions are both practical and financially viable
