Technical Lead (Finance)

Transport Exchange Group (TEG) is looking for a highly experienced Technical Lead – FinTech (Java) to join our Finance Engineering team. In this pivotal role, you’ll provide both strategic and technical leadership, ensuring the delivery of high-quality software while driving innovation and team performance.

Responsibilities:

As Technical Lead, you will own the technical direction of the Finance Engineering team, guiding architecture, delivery, and development best practices:

Technical Leadership

• Serve as the technical owner of the Finance team’s application ecosystem
• Lead development decisions aligned to system design and business goals
• Write clean, secure, performant code in Java
• Champion and enforce coding standards and automated testing practices
• Embed security best practices across the software lifecycle
• Oversee release cycles and support reliable, low-risk deployments
• Act swiftly to resolve production issues and conduct root cause analysis

Collaboration & Mentorship

• Work closely with solution architects, DevOps, Product, UX, and QA teams to deliver solutions at pace
• Use approved AI coding tools to enhance developer productivity
• Mentor and develop team members through 1:1s and technical coaching
• Maintain team focus on priorities and actively remove blockers to delivery
• Represent the team in senior tech forums and help drive productivity improvements across the organisation

Skills and Experience Required:

10+ years of commercial experience building Java-based applications in B2B or B2C SaaS environments

At least 2+ years in a technical leadership role, with a proven ability to motivate and develop teams

At least 2+ years working on FinTech or payments-related platforms

Seasoned experience with:

• Java, Spring Boot & Spring ecosystem
• Hibernate, Maven
• Event-based systems (Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ, or Pulsar)
• REST APIs & microservices architecture
• AWS and cloud infrastructure
• Relational & NoSQL databases (especially PostgreSQL)

Strong understanding of:

• TDD and familiarity with BDD
• CI/CD pipelines using Git, Jenkins, Docker
• Computer science fundamentals, design principles & software patterns

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to clearly articulate technical topics to both peers and non-technical stakeholders

Compensation package from £90,000, dependent on experience.
