We are seeking an experienced Technical Manager to lead our Organic department at our Coventry site. This role is pivotal in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, legally defensible analytical results while driving continuous improvement across laboratory operations. With four Team Leaders reporting into you, you will play a key part in shaping the department’s capability, compliance, performance, and culture. Days Per Week: Monday - Friday (flexible working)
Basis: Permanent, with both full-time and part-time options available.

The Day to Day
- Ensuring the department operates in full compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation and promotes a strong safety culture.
- Maintaining the company’s quality system and ensuring methods and procedures remain compliant with internal and external audit requirements.
- Driving capacity and process improvements to optimise laboratory efficiency and reduce production costs.
- Managing departmental direct and indirect costs, revenue targets, and resource justification.
- Overseeing key client KPIs to ensure analytical quality meets required standards.
- Working within the Human Resources framework to ensure all workplace regulations and procedures are met.
- Developing and enhancing the technical capabilities of the section to support client and internal business needs.
- Undertaking site staff inductions on a rotational basis.
- Managing the site’s PMP operations.
The Essentials
- Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
- Strong influencing skills with the ability to remain calm and controlled under pressure.
- Demonstrated experience in motivating, coaching, retaining and developing staff.
- Ability to identify issues early and implement proactive solutions.
- Comfortable working cross-functionally to resolve challenges effectively.
- Experience in implementing innovative solutions and improving procedures.
- Ability to communicate confidently with auditors and regulators at a technical level.
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to draw conclusions from scientific and operational data.
- Detailed knowledge of high-volume production laboratory operations and quality systems.
- HND/HNC/Degree or equivalent in a relevant science subject.
- Proven management experience within a technical environment.
- Significant experience working under ISO 17025/Mcerts/14001/45001 accreditation.
- Chartered Chemist status or ability to achieve this within a reasonable timeframe.
