Description

The future is quantum. Oxford Ionics is at the forefront of pioneering quantum computing, delivering world-leading innovation to create the most powerful, accurate, and reliable quantum systems. Quantum computing offers a radically new way of building computers that harnesses the power of quantum physics to outperform conventional supercomputers exponentially. Using our unique trapped-ion technology, we are leading the race to unleash quantum computing's unparalleled potential.

What to expect:

We are looking for a Technical Project Manager to join our growing team. You will work at the intersection of engineering, physics and commercial operations, managing complex cross-functional technical projects that underpin the development of our quantum systems. You will ensure projects are delivered efficiently, aligning timelines, resources and stakeholder expectations to drive progress towards our ambitious goals.

What you'll be responsible for:

You will oversee the planning and delivery of complex technical projects that sit at the heart of Oxford Ionics’ quantum technology roadmap. Working closely with our engineering, scientific and manufacturing teams, you will ensure that projects are prioritised appropriately, risks and timescales are proactively managed, and communication flows smoothly across all stakeholders. You will play a critical role in maintaining momentum as we push towards our ambitious milestones, whilst helping to shape and improve our project delivery processes.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing clear project plans with defined tasks, timelines and resource requirements
  • Coordinating activities across multidisciplinary teams to align deliverables and manage dependencies effectively
  • Working with project owners and team managers to understand resourcing trade-offs, communicating with senior management where calls need to be made
  • Leading regular project meetings, providing updates and escalating issues when needed
  • Maintaining accurate project tracking, documentation and reporting to ensure transparency and accountability
  • Reporting to internal and external stakeholders

What you'll need:

You will need prior experience in managing complex, cross-functional technical projects with a strong understanding of the full project lifecycle from concept through to delivery, ideally in sectors such as quantum computing, semiconductor manufacturing, electronics, software or similar. Alongside this you will have a strong understanding of the tools and processes used to manage engineering projects, with an appreciation of when to use them. Additionally, you will have demonstrated the ability to identify risks and implement mitigation plans early.

Confidence working across multi-disciplinary teams will be essential, as well as the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to drive progress and resolve challenges. The ideal candidate will have excellent organisational skills and have a track record of prioritising and managing multiple projects simultaneously. We are looking for someone who can provide flexible and adaptable project management at a suitable level for an evolving organisation.

Knowledge of working in an advanced scientific environment would be beneficial. Additional qualifications, such as a degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline would be preferred.

So why us?

Oxford Ionics is leading the way in quantum technology, and we need skilled, innovative individuals like you. We offer a range of benefits, including opportunities to further your career with a world-class team, business stock options, generous annual leave, flexible working, private medical and dental insurance for you and your family, and much more. Join us and be part of the future of quantum computing.

Oxford Ionics is committed to equal opportunity for all.
