Role Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Server Decommissioning Specialist to lead and execute decommissioning activities with a strong emphasis on data integrity, security compliance, and operational efficiency. This role involves end-to-end responsibility for identifying, assessing, and safely retiring legacy infrastructure in alignment with organizational and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and evaluate servers for decommissioning based on business and technical criteria.
- Backup and migrate critical data to secure storage locations prior to shutdown.
- Disable services, applications, and scheduled tasks to ensure clean deactivation.
- Revoke user access and update security policies to maintain compliance.
- Unmount storage volumes, securely wipe disks, and shut down operating systems.
- Ensure all activities comply with internal policies and regulatory standards.
- Update asset management systems and maintain documentation for incident, change, and audit purposes.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Database Administration: Experience in managing and migrating databases during decommissioning.
- Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in Bash and Python for automating decommissioning tasks.
- Storage Management: Knowledge of storage systems and secure data wiping techniques.
- Networking & Security: Understanding of firewall rules, access control, and network configurations.
- Backup & Recovery: Expertise in data backup, recovery, and migration strategies.
- Compliance & Documentation: Familiarity with ITIL processes, change management, and regulatory compliance standards.
