Technical Underwriting Manager: Reporting to the Head of Technical UW Delivery, the role has responsibility for ensuring effective communication to senior management on the status of Underwriting change as well as escalating and removing any blockages to change as appropriate. The role requires a high level of expertise and in-depth knowledge and will be required to make decisions within designated levels of authority; the job holder will be responsible for one area of the business, typical Wheels or Household, encompassing both Direct and Broker. The jobholder will be an integral part of steering groups as well as supporting the overall growth portfolio delivery.
This is a highly technical role that will work with cross functional teams to develop coherent plans that deliver effective change whilst maintaining technical excellence and will require close working relationships internal and external stakeholders.
Main Responsibilities as Technical Underwriting Manager:
- Effective delivery of business led change to agreed timescales, scope, and budget. Encompassing full E2E spectrum of BAU, Simple Change, Large and Strategic propositions/projects. Delivering projects and change with the necessary level of technical excellence to support delivery of MYB.
- Support a risk control framework that delivers Ageas’ risk appetite ensuring adherence to Consumer Duty.
- Manage team workload to ensure resource is allocated maximised, whilst maintaining an individual workload balance. Managing resourcing, assessing team against deliverables/workload.
- Provide Leadership direction to the team supporting individual development to ensure a high performing team as clear objectives for all reports, and the competency levels are maintained and monitored.
- Demonstrate an understanding of customer needs, ensuring that products and services are designed to meet the needs of the identified target market, deliver value, and good outcomes for customers, and developed in adherence to all Regulatory and Statutory requirements.
Skills and experience you need as Technical Underwriting Manager:
- To have a proven track record of technical underwriting, with a sound understanding of underwriting and principles and experience of a wide range of technical issues across all products.
- Knowledge and understanding of all relevant technical, market and legislative directives.
- Understanding of Insurance principles and law.
- Previous in-depth experience in an underwriting and pricing environment is essential.
- Degree, CII qualification or similar preferred.
