About The Role (External)
Are you a people person?
Are you energised by solving complex problems?
Do you want to be part of a digital signalling generational change?
Have you project experience with signalling or railway operations?
This is an exciting opportunity to develop and manage a number of portfolio workstreams laying the foundations for ETCS (European Train Control System – our digital signalling system) to be delivered through future route renewals. This includes:
- Standing up workstreams to define best practice in areas of strategy and scheme development, building on the experience and lessons learned from earlier deployments
- Initiating and managing projects that tackle implementation challenges needing a national solution
- Supporting the creation and management of portfolio benchmarking and monitoring of trends
You’ll be working with other parts of Network Rail, subject matter experts and wider industry partners as required to deliver these, reviewing and challenging incremental outputs to confirm they meet the requirements.
To succeed in this role you will need to hold a long term vision and be comfortable working with a team operating out of multiple locations in an evolving environment.
What we need from you:
- Proven experience of leading the delivery of defined workstreams or projects, including planning, risk management, issue resolution, and reporting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders and present delivery information clearly and concisely.
- Demonstrated experience managing supplier or partner delivery, including shaping requirements, monitoring performance, and working with commercial teams.
- Ability to operate within structured governance and assurance environments, ensuring delivery is transparent, compliant, and accountable.
- Track record of adapting delivery in complex or evolving contexts, using sound judgement to maintain momentum and meet targets.
- Educated to degree level, or able to demonstrate equivalent relevant experience in infrastructure technology, or innovation delivery settings
The role is office based in London Kings Cross, with travel as needed to support projects and change initiatives. IPDR (Industry Partnership for Digital Railway) asks staff to be present in Network Rail offices three days per week, and has policies for both agile and flexible working.
