Kitchen Assistant (Temp)
Location: Brookhaven, Bamber Bridge
Service Type: Open-Rehabilitation Nursing Home
Pay: £12.60 per hour | £22,932 per annum, pro rata (approx. £3,822 for 2 months full-time)
Hours: 35 hours per week - Monday to Friday, 10:00am to 6:00pm (1-hour unpaid break)
Contract: 2-month full-time contract, with the option to continue on a flexible bank basis at £14.12 per hour (including holiday pay)

About The Role
As a Kitchen Assistant at Brookhaven, you’ll work closely with our Head Chef to maintain high standards of food preparation, cleanliness, and safety. You’ll also support service users involved in kitchen-based recovery activities through our Therapeutic Earnings Programme. Key duties include:
- Assisting with food preparation and maintaining a clean, safe kitchen environment
- Cleaning and storing equipment, utensils, and surfaces in line with hygiene standards
- Clearing and cleaning dining areas before and after meals, and emptying waste bins
- Ensuring food stock, crockery, and cutlery are available and stored correctly
- Supporting service users in therapeutic kitchen roles and contributing to ongoing improvements and inspections

Brookhaven is a 23-bed, mixed-gender open rehabilitation service in Bamber Bridge, supporting adults aged 18+ with enduring mental health needs. The service provides structured routines and meaningful community connections through leisure, education, and vocational opportunities.

Requirements
- Previous experience working in a similar kitchen or catering environment
- Understanding of safe food preparation, kitchen hygiene, and cleaning practices
- Awareness of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health), infection control, and Health & Safety regulations
- Willingness to support and supervise service users in a kitchen setting as part of their recovery
