General Dynamics in St Leonards-on-Sea currently provide avionic mission computing systems for a wide range of military fast jets, helicopters, and UAV’s. Recent success has resulted in General Dynamics developing the next generation of Advanced High Performance, Safety Critical Mission Computer Systems to meet the needs of latest platforms in development by several aircraft manufacturers. These Mission Computing Systems provide the functionality that integrates aircraft systems, sensor systems and stores management systems with the information and control systems required by the aircrew to meet the demanding operational needs of these aircraft.
Job Description
As a
Test Development Engineer you would play an important role in our innovative Test Development team, working on avionics and possibly on land based armoured vehicle communication systems. You will be expected to provide test solutions for highly technical electronic circuits and units. You will undertake test development strategies and develop test solutions to ensure our products meet all our quality requirements and safe functionality within the aircraft. You will also play a major part in technical investigations, requiring a comprehensive knowledge of electronic hardware with a heavy processor/FPGA bias.
Working alongside top quality engineers, you will find your hardware/software knowledge continually expanding, leading to opportunities for future development and progression
As a senior engineer, you will be expected to play a leading role within the company. Being heavily involved in test strategy development and implementation, you will be required to produce detailed recommendations along with project planning using Microsoft Office applications. You will be expected to present test strategies to senior management. You must be good at decision making, be capable of open technical discussion and have the ability to understand ‘the bigger picture’. You will need to be a team player but also capable of working individually. As your role grows, there will be opportunities for you to become an Engineering Team Lead with direct reports and additional responsibilities.
Qualifications
To be successful in this position you will ideally demonstrate the following
- Comprehensive knowledge of electronic hardware
- Advanced level test related expertise
- Ideally develop test solutions using LabView and TestStand as these are the tools used in the team currently
- Perform complex technical investigations individually or with a team
- Developing, analysing, improving and implementing test strategies
- Ideally some knowledge of Linux OS
- Leadership skills
- Act and make decisions upon your own initiative
- Excellent capacity for problem solving combined with report writing skills
- Capable of working on numerous tasks in parallel
- Ideally requires minimum of HNC level education or equivalent, with a proven range of relevant experience.
Additional Information
This role has a salary of between £45,600 and £57,000 plus our flexible benefits package.
