A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for a
Test Engineer to join the world-renowned Power Electronics, Machines and Control Institute (PEMC) at the University of Nottingham and be part of the cutting-edge facility working with our testing team. If you are an electrician, electronics or mechanical engineer, or have worked in comparable research and testing environment, and are aspiring to develop your skillset in a cutting-edge industry, this role could be for you.
The University of Nottingham is at the forefront of innovative research in propulsion electrification. Operating from a world-renowned manufacturing and testing centre for the advancement of electric propulsion, with a drive to support industry in their efforts towards lower emission travel. The post holder will be part of a highly skilled technical team supporting the facilities activities and will work with other technical and commercial staff to provide a professional testing service for the characterisation and verification of electrical machines and equipment.
About The Role
Primarily the electrical, mechanical and data acquisition setup of high-performance test stands in readiness to carry out the testing campaigns for customers. Including the understanding, installation and setup of safety systems to monitor the system health. In addition, working with customers and stakeholders to deliver those test campaigns for each project. This involves the control, operation and safety monitoring of the high-specification test stands in the facility, also customers prototypes where applicable.
The role requires the management of time and tasks across the portfolio of projects to deliver campaigns in a timely manner, and leading and supporting in both electrical and mechanical installation, including calibration, certification and maintenance. About You
Candidates should be able to demonstrate a good understanding of electrical and/or mechanical systems and the installation of. Previous experience working within an electrical/ mechanical environment is essential. A base knowledge of motor-generator test stand operation is desirable, but training will be given and will form an essential part of this role as the equipment is of a highly unique nature.

Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours), 2-year fixed term contract. The funding for this post is expected to be extended. Job share arrangements may be considered. Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
