- The contract offered is permanent and full-time (37 hours per week).
What will I be doing?
We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. As a Traffic Control professional, you will support with the maintenance of the Councils traffic control assets which include traffic signals, pedestrian crossings and variable message signing.
Your day-to-day work will involve:
- Modifying existing traffic control facilities to improve safety and efficiency.
- Develop, extend, maintain and implement changes to traffic control and CCTV systems, and manage any faults identified.
- Produce accurate AutoCAD design drawings for new traffic signal junctions and crossings, and scheme costings.
- Support the configuration and implementation of new and refurbished traffic signals installations and control equipment
- Prepare MOVA datasets, commission and validate new sites.
- Working closely with contractors, consultants, specialists and other Highways services

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you have:
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, or a related field of equivalent relevant experience.
- Demonstrable knowledge of traffic control systems and technologies.
- Knowledge of traffic modelling software such as LINSIG and TRANSYT.
- Proficiency in using AutoCAD and other design software.
- Familiarity with microprocessor signal controllers and UTC specifications.

The salary for the role is Grade 10, ranging from £36,124 to £40,476 per annum.
