Your future role
Join the team responsible for defining the mechanical architecture of future trains in the UK and abroad. We are looking for an experienced mechanical designer who is an expert in engineering concept design and system integration with a whole vehicle, systems engineering, approach.
We’ll look to you for:
- Defines the vehicle and train geometry plus exterior and interior layouts based upon external constraints and vehicle level requirements.
- Responsible for the volume allocation and space reservation management for external and internal train systems
- Works closely with system engineers to select catalogue solutions or support concept development
- Give support to Mechanical Integration team for concept development
- Accountable for: piloting general studies (Gauge, Weight, Infrastructure physical interfaces); and defining volume allocation for Car bodyshell; bogie; traction and train layout equipment’s, considering (outputs of his scope) operation main dimensions (passengers, crew, maintenance); carry over; components performances.
- Defines dimensional and weight constraints related to his scope
- Assesses System Breakdown Structure (SBS) activity & deliverables related to weight constraints (SBS consolidate Supplier component weight)
- Requires a high level of cross-functional working with Sub-System Leaders, Mechanical Lead Engineers, System Engineers in support of Train Architecture Manager and Train Design Domain Leaders

- Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent experience
- Experience of mechanical integration at final product level
- Mechanical design in Transport Industry is required
- Experienced CAD user, preferably Catia V5 / V6
- Use of norms, standards and regulation from Transport Authorities
- Mechanical engineering preferably applied to railway products is desired
- Knowledge and practice in design V cycle, design to cost and design to manufacturability
- Technical competencies: Weight management, Functional dimensioning, 3D/2D model design, Design to cost, Mechanical integration
