Please see this exciting opportunity to join the team of experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioners on Cardiac Intensive Care at City Hospital, Nottingham.

Cardiac Surgery at Trent Cardiac Centre supports the local community of Nottinghamshire and surrounding counties, and performs approximately 700 operations per year. CICU, comprising of 10 beds and CHDU, comprising of 6 beds allow for the provision of necessary organ support of patients before and after surgery.

The specialty ACP team formed over 20 years ago. The team provides 24/7 cover of the CICU & CHDU and for over a decade has been providing sole resident cover out of hours, supported and supervised by a team of Consultant Cardiac Anaesthetists. Over a 3 year ACP MSc training pathway, you will develop advanced patient assessment, diagnostic and procedural skills, alongside other essential skills in order to work at the top of license.

We also have a developing ACP team on Morris Ward, our 20-bedded specialty ward.

Beyond clinical duties, the specialty ACP team engage in Research & Service Improvement, Education and Leadership activities, encompassing 'the 4 pillars of Advanced Practice'. The team have very strong ties with the University of Nottingham.

The Successful Applicant For This Trainee ACP Post Within The Cardiac Surgery Will Undertake The Advanced Clinical Practice MSc As An Apprentice And Follow Our Supported And Established Three-year ACP Training Pathway Consisting Of

Year 1: appointed as a band 6 and work within the trainee’s appropriate role in the department e.g. nurse/ physiotherapist/ pharmacist. The trainee is released 15 hours a week to complete year 1 of the MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice.

Year 2: Following successful completion of year 1, the trainee commences as a full-time supernumerary tACP and starts the work-based learning and non-medical prescribing modules. Supernumerary trainees will have dedicated consultant supervision time, consultant competency sign off, ACP mentorship and structured teaching; allowing completion of the work based learning competency portfolio. Following completion of non-medical prescribing and a percentage of the portfolio, tACPs will be awarded a band 7 following an appraisal.

Year 3: following successful completion of the year 2 modules and the portfolio, tACPs will undertake a Structured Oral Examination, once completed the tACPs will undertake a supported transition onto the rota with a supervisory period. When the final gateway assessments/modules are completed, the trainee will advance to a band 8a qualified ACP.

Once qualified, the post holder will join the qualified ACP rota upon CICU/CHDU at AfC band 8a.
