Do you have an eye for detail and a passion for design and innovation?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Technical Designer to join our Design department. Working alongside our talented Technical Design team, you will be trained on all relevant currency origination software and will gain a deep understanding of our currency printing processes.

Initially working on non-live projects, you will learn all aspects of assembling a banknote, from converting concept designs into high resolution print-ready artwork files, to sending plate data to our production sites. You will also learn the full end to end print processes in our production sites and will develop an understanding of what each print process does and its benefits.

Key Responsibilities

With support and guidance, build capabilities to deliver the following activities.

  • Training and use in Currency specific software applications. Digital File Manipulation using Durer Studio, ONE system, Jura, CDS Embedding and other design software applications.
  • Proof reading: to be able to proof/buddy read all other work produced by Technical Design
  • Gain a working knowledge of all the printing processes including Intaglio and Litho.
  • To be able to understand and adhere to set design rules at all times and report any conflicts
  • Work, at all times, within the controls of Quality, Security and Process procedures

Contract type: Permanent

Working hours: Full Time – 36.5 hrs per week (9am – 5:15pm Mon, 9am – 5pm Tues – Fri)

Base location: Basingstoke Viables

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Good working knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator
  • Comfortable learning new software applications
  • Meticulous eye for detail
  • Competent to proofread and quality check to the smallest detail
  • Ability to follow processes
  • Excellent communication
  • Technically minded
  • Educated to at least A Level, preferably in Graphic Design / IT
  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Digital Pre-Press for Print (desirable)
