An exciting opportunity has come up within the East and South East London (ESEL) Pathology Network at the Homerton Hospital, for an enthusiastic Biochemistry Transformation and Compliance Lead, who shares our vision of a high-quality Biochemistry service, and invite applications from suitably qualified and experienced managers.
A comprehensive transformation initiative is underway to forge a single, integrated pathology network spanning seven hospital laboratories. The envisioned 'hub and spoke' operational model revolves around The Royal London Hospital (RLH), a major trauma centre housing the London Air Ambulance, and linked to vital service laboratories supporting various clinical specialities across our affiliated hospital sites.
The post holder will take a lead on laboratory harmonisation and transformational projects, responsible for planning, day-to-day delivery, and subsequent performance management. Adjusting plans as necessary to ensure that risks and issues are managed and benefits are delivered.
The post holder will also focus on laboratory compliance with relevant accreditations; contribute to service improvement initiatives, as well as facilitating delivery of the current service provision across the Partnership.
The successful candidate for the role must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to organise and motivate staff.
To be effective in this role you must have extensive experience of Biochemistry and delivering complex transformation projects, interacting with clinical users of the service, working at pace, working closely with a large and a complex stakeholder community.
The appointee will line manage the Biochemistry quality and training team and work closely with the Biochemistry Scientific Lead, Clinical Scientist team and Operational Leads.
The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health.
The Pathology Partnership is based on well-established models for pathology networks, with the Royal London Hospital becoming the main hub laboratory for the network and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at all other Hospital sites.
Pathology is made up of the following services - Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry; Infectious Diseases including Microbiology and Virology; Cellular Pathology including Histopathology, non-gynae Cytology and mortuary services; Immunology; Cytogenetics and Molecular Haematology; Immunophenotyping; Clinical Transplantation and Retinoblastoma.
The 2020/21 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. £126m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 822 WTE.
