Description
The Transport Planning Manager will oversee the planning and coordination of EESW transport operations.
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, extensive experience in transport planning, and the ability to optimise and streamline transport processes.
This role requires a strategic thinker who can manage complex transport operations, ensure compliance with regulations, and lead a team to achieve operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement transport planning strategies to improve transport efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Conduct regular analysis and forecasting to anticipate future transport needs and challenges.
- Oversee the daily operations of the transport planning team, ensuring timely and accurate planning and execution of transport activities, alongside managing the debrief function and processes, focusing on improving turnaround times. Verify the accurate and timely completion of paperwork and electronic documents by drivers.
- Lead the planning team in continually challenging driver resource planning to maximise vehicle utilisation between all sites.
- To build and lead effective and productive communication with Customer Service and Operations teams ensuring realistic expectations are upheld without compromising on the service standards.
- Ensure accurate driver debriefs are carried out at all depots daily, and information recorded accurately for KPI / report production.
- Production of KPI’s (weekly & monthly) to show volumes and efficiencies.
- Handle any transport-related issues or emergencies, providing timely and effective solutions.
- Support the Fleet Compliance Manager in regard vehicle maintenance (E.g., by ensuring all vehicles are presented for servicing on the agreed date and that information is passed to the driver and duty Operation Supervisor).
- Contribute to the performance management and development of employees within defined area of responsibility, including completion of reviews within Performance Review Process and supporting the use of Individual Development Plans.
- Plan, execute, review, and manage all training requirements for the planning team to keep abreast of all new software development and updates in line with company requirements.
- To conduct regular 1-2-1 meetings to review performance.
- Adherence to the Company’s Health and Safety Policy ensuring all employees within areas of responsibility, are compliant.
- Ensure Team cover is in place for holidays to minimise impact on planning operations.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Proactive and safety focused approach.
- Understanding of “O” licence obligations and regulations.
- Excellent knowledge of EU driver hour regulations.
- Good people manager, proven experience leading and coaching a team.
- Experience of producing KPI and reports on regular basis.
- Able to work under strict time pressures.
- Logical in approach with the ability to analyse data and formulate action.
- Hands on and methodical, with good attention to detail.
- Highly organised with the ability to prioritise effectively and to plan and manage own agenda.
- Excellent listening skills, written and verbal communication skills.
- Positive and motivated with flexible and adaptable attitude.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective and positive working relationships within and outside of the department.
- Good conflict resolution skills based on a ‘Can do’ attitude.
- Must demonstrate high levels of integrity and adopt a professional approach in all interactions – should be transparent, open, and honest in all dealings.
DESIRABLE- Experience working within waste industry most desirable, however, alternate industries with relevant experience will be considered.
