Transport Shift Manager

We’re looking for a confident and highly responsible individual to take on a key role within our Transport team at our Midlands Distribution Centre (MDC). This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a high-profile, fast-paced environment where your contributions will be visible and valued.

As part of the Transport Department, you’ll play a vital role in managing the movement of finished goods from all UK manufacturing and storage locations. You’ll also support the growing coordination of inbound raw materials to our manufacturing sites—reducing reliance on third-party hauliers. This is a time-critical operation where performance is measured against key metrics, making it an exciting challenge for someone who thrives on accountability and precision.

What will be your key deliverables?

• Proactively and reactively manage daily transport operations, adapting to changes such as traffic, customer delays, and fleet availability.
• Use systems including SAP, MDC WMS, Autostore, Microlise, Manugistics, and Microsoft Office tools to plan and monitor logistics activities.
• Receive and process daily movement requirements from planning teams, covering over 350 delivery locations, factory clearance, and third-party work.
• Optimise and adjust transport plans in real time to maintain high service levels and operational efficiency.
• Support Shift Managers in producing performance metrics and tracking compliance against key KPIs (e.g. 98% on-time delivery).

We are seeking a proactive and resilient individual to join our team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This role is critical in ensuring seamless operations across our supply chain, balancing customer service excellence with efficient factory logistics.

Essential

• Operate effectively under pressure to make timely decisions that:
• Safeguard customer service levels.
• Maintain factory flow by managing finished goods and raw material supply in line with delivery schedules.
• Ensure compliance with:
• The TGWU 'Black Book' Union Agreement.
• Site-specific pladis operational rules.
• Health & Safety legislation.
• ISO standards and DSOP procedures.
• Monitor and manage driver performance, ensuring adherence to delivery plans and operational targets.

Working Pattern:

The pladis vehicle fleet operation is 24/7 and requires regular monitoring and dynamic decision-making. You will work a combination of nights and days (06:00 – 18:00 / 18:00 – 06:00) shift pattern of 4 on 4 off, including weekends with no risk of interrupting production. Overtime will also be paid for additional shifts worked when required.

What will the interview process be?

• 1st stage interview – 45 minutes competency-based interview based on our company values and your experiences.
• 2nd stage interview – 60 minutes – a technical interview to understand your skill set/case study or presentation interview.

pladis does also use both Psychometric and Aptitude tests to support our processes so you may be asked to complete these as part of your process. Some processes may differ, but we will keep you updated!
