Great Heights Academy Trust is seeking to appoint an experienced, dedicated and innovative secondary English specialist to raise standards in English across trust secondary schools and work within the Great Heights English Hub on the Department for Education (DfE) expansion of the English Hubs programme to support secondary schools in improving reading outcomes. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to shape a new strand of national literacy support.
The Trust Director of English is responsible for leading and developing the strategic direction of English across our trust secondary schools and securing strong outcomes for all through ensuring a well-structured and sequenced English curriculum, and high-quality inclusive practice in English lessons.

About The Role
- Trust-Wide Leadership & Collaboration: Serve as an ambassador for the Trust, promoting its vision and values, and working collaboratively with subject leaders, senior leadership teams, and colleagues across all academies to drive continuous improvement in English education.
- Curriculum & Pedagogical Development: Lead curriculum planning, development, and implementation for English across the Trust, ensuring alignment with national standards, quality first teaching strategies, and subject-specific excellence.
- Performance & Quality Assurance: Monitor, analyse, and report on student performance data to identify areas for support and intervention, ensuring consistency and high standards across all secondary academies in the Trust.
- Staff Development & Mentoring: Mentor English curriculum leaders and support professional development for teaching staff, including ITT and ECT colleagues, through targeted CPD and structured support programmes.
- Intervention & Student Outcomes: Design and implement effective intervention strategies and common assessment frameworks to raise student attainment and secure strong outcomes in English, with a focus on transition from primary to secondary education.
- English Hub Leadership: Lead the delivery of the English Hub’s secondary support offer, including conducting reading audits, managing literacy specialist support, allocating resources, and liaising with DfE and schools to track and report impact.
