Job Overview
This is a whole-time post for a Trust Doctor in Haematology post (ST3-8) in Clinical Haematology at the Royal United Hospital, Bath. An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated and ambitious individual to join a dynamic team. The post would be suitable for applicants who are wishing to gain further experience and training in Haematology, with a view to pursuing formal training in haematology, or those looking to establish a longer term role as part of a supportive team.
Main duties of the job
While working in the Haematology Unit the post holder will be working with close Consultant supervision, in line with 2021 changes to the haematology curriculum for training doctors in Haematology. There will be one month of induction. The post will provide the opportunity to rotate through the following roles: covering the inpatient ward, the day unit, providing liaison and advice to the other Hospital teams, work in the laboratory (with regard reviewing blood films and bone marrow slides) and also the review of patients in outpatient clinics. There will be the opportunity to learn specialist skills, such as bone marrow biopsy and lumbar puncture.

Person specification
Qualification & Postgraduate
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Complete 12 months experience at F1 & F2 level (or equivalent outside UK) prior to commencing this post
Desirable criteria
- ALS, APLS and/or ATLS
- MRCP Part 1 & 2
- Experience in Haematology at ST1/2 level (or equivalent outside UK)
- Experience working as part of a MDT
Ability and Knowledge & Clinical Skills and Technical Skills
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of own limitations
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within speciality
- Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
- Able to work without direct supervision where appropriate
- Able to prioritise clinical need
- Able to maximise safety and minimise risk
