What you'll do:

As an Underwriter - Active Assailant in London, you will be entrusted with significant responsibility for managing a global portfolio of complex risks. You will also play an integral role in developing operational plans that drive the business forward while acting as a trusted advisor within your team. • Contribute to the development and implementation of operational plans that align with Aspen's wider business strategy and reflect key priorities for the active assailant portfolio.
• Apply specialist underwriting expertise to assess, price, and manage risks within delegated authority levels, ensuring all transactions are executed accurately and profitably.
• Advise colleagues as a subject matter expert by providing guidance on underwriting queries, policy interpretation, and best practice standards across the team.
• Negotiate rates, terms, and conditions for both new and renewal business while maintaining strong relationships with brokers and clients.
• Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements (including FCA/Lloyd's regulations) as well as internal policies when producing contract documentation and managing files.
• Support credit control processes by assisting with payment collection activities related to your portfolio.
• Participate in regular reviews of the portfolio's performance against business objectives, identifying trends or areas for improvement through detailed analysis.
• Produce accurate management information reports to support senior underwriters in monitoring activity and making informed decisions.
• Maintain up-to-date records on relevant systems to ensure data accuracy regarding underwriting exposures and aggregate positions.
• Mentor junior practitioners within the function by supporting their learning, development planning, and day-to-day performance.

What you bring:

To excel as an Underwriter at Aspen, you will bring substantial hands-on experience from a similar role within the insurance industry-ideally gained in a Lloyd's environment or another leading market player. You will have honed your communication skills through frequent interaction with brokers/clients as well as internal teams; your attention to detail ensures that every transaction meets rigorous compliance standards. A natural collaborator who thrives in communal settings, you are adept at sharing knowledge generously while supporting less experienced colleagues' development.

• Extensive Knowlege of Active Assailant product line or other complex/specialised insurance lines within a reputable insurer or Lloyd's syndicate.
• In-depth understanding of relevant market conditions, industry best practices, reinsurance parameters, pricing tools, loss models, and delegated authorities specific to this class of business.
• Proven track record of applying legal/regulatory knowledge (especially FCA/Lloyd's requirements) to ensure compliance across all aspects of underwriting activity.
• Strong interpersonal skills enabling you to build effective relationships with brokers, clients, colleagues, and stakeholders at all levels.
• Excellent organisational abilities allowing you to manage multiple priorities efficiently while meeting deadlines without compromising quality or accuracy.
• Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications (particularly Excel) alongside familiarity with departmental software packages used for underwriting analysis/reporting.
• Demonstrated ability to analyse data critically for decision-making purposes; produce detailed management information reports; and contribute meaningfully to peer review processes.
• Experience mentoring or managing junior team members by supporting their professional growth through clear communication, feedback, and development planning.
• Degree-level education (or equivalent) preferred; progress towards ACII qualification (or equivalent) highly desirable along with completion of Lloyd's & London Market test where relevant.
