About the Team

We define Partnerships as a new strategic approach to delegated underwriting. Our focus is on building a deep level of collaboration with a small number of select trading partners, underpinned by a mutual commitment to superior data and analytics and backed by lead capacity. Our purpose is to create substantive shared offerings with our strategic partners by aligning financial performance and data intelligence underpinned by overlapping cultural values.

We have built a dedicated team who work with our partners across lines of business and territories to build, evaluate, underwrite, and operationalize such opportunities.

About the Role

The Underwriter will underwrite risk within the Partnerships division, ensuring effective risk selection, governance and resources are in place to develop the strategy, implement the business plan, monitor performance and meet regulatory requirements.

The successful candidate will do this by:

• Reviewing opportunities/submissions including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs and financial reports while conducting appropriate research to determine degree of risk for each account/partnership agreement.
• Calculating appropriate risk premium by utilising pricing tools for the specific line of business with additional consideration for reinsurance and other costs while ensuring profitability.
• Processing entries, as required, properly onto relevant systems in a timely manner ensuring accuracy of data with relation to both underwriting and exposures.
• Reviewing loss control reports and managing policy endorsement requests to process any necessary changes to the policy.
• Analysing risks both on an individual basis and at a portfolio level.
• Following the business plan for the Partnerships division in order to make appropriate decisions.
• Contributing to the planning process through research and preparation of relevant materials.
• Contributing and participating in meetings to share and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice.
• Working across a cross functional team, including claims, actuarial, operations, data and exposure management
• Participating in negotiations with Partnership organisations to secure favourable terms and conditions.
• Maintaining relationships with customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues to achieve business objectives.
• Providing timely service to all stakeholders.

To do this, we’re going to need you to bring:

• An understanding of underwriting and insurance knowledge - experience of writing Property, Casualty or delegated business would be beneficial
• An understanding of relevant software including Excel, data/MI tools and catastrophe models
• A collaborative approach, providing creative solutions and ideas for resolution
• Excellent analytical and technical skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• The ability to develop good client relationships
• The ability to manage time, meet deadlines and prioritise effectively
• The ability to develop and understand business processes, strategy and planning
