Underwriting Technician TT Club
Role: Underwriting Technician
Reports to: Portfolio Underwriter
Overall Objective of Role:
To support underwriters with technical and administrative back-up, in order that they may deliver a quick and accurate service. To be involved with team underwriting over time as led by the Senior Underwriter.
Main responsibilities:
- Be responsible for generating all regular underwriting documentation, including preparation of on-line policies and cover confirmations and ensure all underwriting administration is performed quickly, accurately, and issued within Contract Certainty guidelines.
- Field broker enquiries liaising with the team underwriters.
- Maintain accurate data on all Underwriting Systems.
- Manage renewal process and detachment process.
- Manage file administration.
- Have an awareness of the regulatory framework in which the Club operates and the importance of following procedures and maintaining good records.
- Be able to navigate the Club’s website.
- Take responsibility for ensuring underwriting procedures are followed and check work once it has been completed and before it is sent to the Underwriter for sign off.
- Assist audits as required.
- Assist Member/broker ‘service’ visits and social functions as required.
- Take responsibility for team issues such as lunch time and holiday cover, assist on the work front when there are absences, co-ordinate absence and generally assist with the efficient running of the team.
- Be available to train and mentor new staff, as required and agreed in advance.
- Have the ability to attain or existing knowledge of Underwriting Processes. Coupled with understanding of Underwriting Guidelines and Reinsurance programme. General awareness of the club; products offered, business structure and key objectives.
- Review MI data and exception reports to ensure all underwriting administration is performed quickly and accurately.
- Credit control coordination duties.
- Ensure all underwriting systems are used properly and consistently.
Person Specification:
- Demonstrate understanding of TT Club’s cover wordings, AT&C library and institute cargo clauses.
- Excellent IT skills – both bespoke systems and Microsoft and particularly excel.
- Excellent communication skills with customer service focus.
- Analytical mind-set and critical thinking.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Flexible and adaptable with ability to work under pressure.
- A team worker but also able to work on own initiative.
- Prioritisation and time management competencies.
- Awareness of current regulatory environment/compliance issues.
- Experience with Oceanwide certificate software
