Role Overview
We’re looking for a skilled and versatile Unreal Generalist to join our real-time visualization team at DNEG. You’ll work across all phases of production—previs, postvis, techviz, visualisation, live entertainment and final pixel—helping to build, animate, light, and optimize scenes in Unreal Engine.
This is an ideal role for a well-rounded artist/technologist who enjoys touching every part of the pipeline. You should be comfortable with asset integration, camera work, lighting, procedural tools, and basic rigging or animation inside Unreal. You’ll collaborate closely with supervisors and artists from other departments, contributing to high-quality sequences and efficient workflows.
Responsibilities
- Build, assemble, and animate scenes in Unreal Engine across various production phases (previs, postvis, techviz, visualisation final pixel).
- Import and manage assets (FBX, Alembic, USD), ensuring proper materials, animation, and scale.
- Set up lighting, lookdev, cameras, and animation/rigging systems in-engine.
- Create and use procedural tools (Unreal PCG, Procedural Layered Materials, Houdini Engine) to help with layout, environments, and FX.
- Troubleshoot real-time rendering and performance issues.
- Collaborate closely with supervisors, technical artists, and other departments to deliver assets and shots to spec and on time.
- Maintain clean and optimized scene structures for scalability and team use.
Qualifications
- Strong production experience using Unreal Engine for visualization, virtual art department, previs/postvis, and/ or game cinematics.
- Comfortable working with Blueprints, including logic setup, animation triggers, and custom controls.
- Familiarity with rigging and animation inside Unreal and/or DCC tools like Maya.
- Hands-on experience with Houdini and/or the Houdini Engine for procedural workflows.
- Working knowledge of Unreal PCG and performance optimization.
- Confident with importing/exporting assets using FBX, USD, or Alembic.
- Broad generalist mindset—comfortable taking on layout, lookdev, world building, lighting, cameras, and simple FX tasks.
Bonus Skills
- Experience with cinematic camera work and lookdev inside Unreal.
- Familiarity with Shotgrid, Perforce, or similar production tools.
- Some experience with C++, Python, or tool-building is a plus.
- Previous work in VFX, animation, or game production pipelines.
- Experience working on in-camera VFX or interactive/immersive projects
