The post holder will work alongside senior clinical nurse specialists assisting in the delivery of high quality Upper GI/HPB services throughout the patient cancer pathways..
Working alongside other clinical colleagues the post holder will develop and advise on expert care, treatment and support for this patient group. The post holder will participate in and contribute to advancing the body of knowledge through education, research and audit as well as developing practice. They will play a key role within the multidisciplinary team in order to ensure a seamless, co-ordinated and timely approach to care.
The role requires an innovative nurse with a sound vision of nursing and a commitment to providing the best patient care. In collaboration with their line manager the post holder will act as key worker for a caseload of patients demonstrating a high level of clinical decision-making and an ability to monitor and improve standards of care.
Main duties of the job
- To work alongside the UGI CNS across the patient pathway, delivering and maintaining high standards of care and contributing to the multi-disciplinary team within the Royal United Hospital.
- To support and contribute to the development and promotion of the nursing service ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost-effective care.
- To educate staff in understanding the care requirements of patients undergoing investigations and treatments and ensure that the physical and psychological needs of the patients and their families are met.
- To provide holistic care for patient’s undergoing investigation and treatment on their entire patient pathway. To deliver a high standard of person centred care which promotes a culture that supports self-management?
- To promote and participate in the implementation of the RUH Cancer strategy and Nursing strategy:
- Reviewing nursing practice and implementing appropriate changes based on research/best practice;
- Developing and implementing Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives.
- To participate in the delivery of specialist education and training to other professionals involved in patient care.
- To promote and maintain effective communication.
- To work collaboratively with colleagues, patients and families to seek their views and to develop and improve practice and the service
