User Researchers are practitioners who collaborate with others to understand challenges faced by people and society. They often work within a multidisciplinary team to inform the design and deliver public services. They do this by contributing to user research activities with real people, ensuring what their team is learning in research informs the end-to-end design of a chosen service.

Any UK Office Hub (Bristol / London / Manchester / Swansea)
Key responsibilities
- Contributes to scoping activities for research that informs the design of public services so they are useful, usable and create successful outcomes
- Comfortable in qualitative / quantitative research methods & applying the most appropriate methods for on research deliveries
- On occasion, work alongside a Senior or Lead User Researcher on one/more research projects
- Conducts research with people that makes them comfortable sharing details of their lives, that teams must understand to design good services
- Is able to understand / interpret & apply basic analysis techniques to analyse research data into synthesised actionable findings, so that teams can confidently confirm or challenge their understandings of problems and ideas
- Can create research reports / artefacts, presentations and “show & tells” for teams and project stakeholders
- Involve whole teams in user research, to build their understanding and empathy for people using and running public services
- Show teams by doing, good habits for sharing research and making decisions
- Help define Made Tech design principles through delivering good public services
Practice
- Some experience in user centred, lean and agile research methodologies including:
- Usability testing
- Contextual enquiry
- Rapid research
- Survey development
- Measurable and evaluative research
- Accessibility and inclusive design
- Awareness of Made Tech’s research standards,GDS phases of project development, the MRS code of practice and GDPR
- Provide clear and informative communications with research participants, including sharing GDPR policies
Community
- Help define Made Tech design principles through delivering good public services
- Represent the community publicly and internally
- Contributes to communities of practice by discussing, sharing suggestions, approaches, ideas and sharing best practice
- Takes a proactive approach to learning (e.g. new research methods / analysis techniques) and shares knowledge back to the UR community.
- Proactively seeking feedback on own work and providing constructive feedback to colleagues
