Role Overview:
We are seeking a User Researcher with active SC Clearance to join a multidisciplinary team on a Central Government engagement. In this role, you'll help uncover user needs, behaviours, and pain points across complex services, and ensure evidence-driven insights inform the design and delivery of inclusive, accessible public services. You'll collaborate closely with service designers, policy experts, interaction designers, and developers to ensure the right outcomes are achieved across entire services—not just at the interface level.
This is a high-impact opportunity where your work will directly improve how citizens and civil servants interact with vital government services.
Key Responsibilities:
User Research Planning & Delivery:
Plan, design, and conduct qualitative and quantitative user research across discovery, alpha, beta, and live phases to inform service decisions.
User Needs & Insights:
Identify, articulate, and prioritise user needs through robust research methods, ensuring insights are clearly evidenced and actionable.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Facilitate research playback sessions, insight-sharing workshops, and stakeholder discussions with diverse audiences—including senior leaders—to drive understanding and alignment.
Research Operations & Ethics:
Ensure research activities follow best practice, including consent, data protection, safeguarding, and inclusive recruitment of participants.
Collaboration & Iteration:
Work closely with designers, developers, analysts, and product managers to iteratively test concepts, prototypes, and live services.
Evidence-Based Delivery:
Translate research findings into clear insights, recommendations, and artefacts that inform design, policy, and delivery decisions.
Policy to Delivery Translation:
Support teams in understanding how policy intent impacts user experience by providing evidence on real-world behaviours and constraints.
Service Standards & Accessibility:
Ensure research aligns with GDS Service Standards and informs accessible, inclusive service design and delivery.
End-to-End Perspective:
Conduct research across entire service ecosystems—including digital, offline, operational, and third-party touchpoints.
Requirements
Security Clearance: Must hold active SC clearance.
