We have several offices in Central and Southern England and have ambitious plans to expand our business. We have a new opportunity for a VAT Assistant Manager to join our VAT team. This is a permanent full-time or part-time role with hybrid and flexible working options. This role may involve travel to a number of offices within the Shaw Gibbs Group.


The Role


We are seeking a qualified VAT Assistant Manager to join the Shaw Gibbs Group VAT team. This is a new & pivotal role within the business which will contribute to a growing & dynamic team.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical advice on a range of Indirect Tax matters, supporting your output with legislation, case law and technical analysis
  • Liaising with clients and colleagues, assisting and advising where necessary
  • Liaising and negotiating with HMRC on behalf of clients
  • Planning and managing assignments ensuring these are completed to a high standard and within budget
  • Providing clients with confidence in their VAT systems by conducting health checks and in-depth reviews of their business tax systems to establish if their VAT is being dealt with thoroughly and accurately
  • Assisting a wide range of clients (from private individuals to £bn companies) with the practical application of the UK VAT and indirect tax regulations
  • Providing support to the wider business with demand led VAT queries
  • Assisting in promoting the VAT advisory service offering both internally and externally
  • Dealing with HMRC correspondence, telephone calls and enquiries
  • General support to the VAT team as required

About You


A minimum of 6 months post qualified experience, preferably within a VAT team. The following attributes would be preferred:

  • Experience of providing VAT advisory services within practice or industry
  • Demonstrate good judgement of risk & be commercially minded
  • Strong technical & analytical skills
  • CTA qualified
  • Experience & willingness to network
  • Experience of communicating with HMRC
  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Organised and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong aptitude for IT - able to pick up new technology quickly
  • Can do attitude, positive
  • Confident, tactful and discreet manner
  • Strong team spirit but also effective working independently
  • A UK driving licence to meet the need to be able to travel to all Shaw Gibbs Group offices
