Vice President Security

The Intelligence, Security & Crisis Management (ISC) team conducts a number of business, intelligence and operational functions that support BP’s ability to anticipate, prevent, respond and recover from a wide spectrum of threats, risks and potential incidents. ISC’s remit spans all of BP’s interests, functions and operations Group-wide. The activity of ISC supports the mitigation of two of the current principle risks requiring Board level oversight.

Today’s security-related business risks have become increasingly complex, interdependent and global in nature. The proactive identification and effective management of these risks is a fundamental requirement of the role.

Effective leadership and related security risk management functions are imperative to the successful operation of a global business enterprise.Organisational reputation, the uninterrupted reliability of normal business processes, the protection of physical and financial assets, the security of staff, and shareholder and senior management confidence all rely, in some measure, upon the effectiveness and competency of the security leadership team of which the incumbent is part.

The VP of Security has a global responsibility for the delivery of strategic and operational security solutions to bp businesses, functions, operations and personnel as part of the ISC leadership team, he/she determines and establishes the optimum application of security policies, practices and programmes in the field. He / She is responsible for providing the accountable business with the capability to effectively manage their security risks. Through leadership, oversight, and delegation ensures their implementation within business entities and other company operations to reduce risk or increase business performance.

• The VP Security is a key member of the ISC Leadership Team, who plays a significant role in advocating and leading a ‘One ISC approach’
• Responsible for setting and delivering the security strategy for the company.
• Responsible for the management of security risk across the portfolio and providing the necessary capability and resources to the accountable business
• Provides strategic leadership, vision and guidance to a globally dispersed team ensuring all are aligned with BP Security initiatives, programmes and policies. Including delivery of a differentiated programme of support to high risk operations in a risk based manner.
• Is responsible for running ISC Security as a business, defining and managing a budget to deliver the Security and overall ISC Strategy.
• Maintains a highly developed view of geopolitical, political, economic and social drivers of security risk, informed by internal and externally held relationships and utilised to guide decision making and resource prioritisation.
• Establishes and maintains liaison at a senior level with law enforcement, government officials, and industry counterparts on a global basis to support Intelligence Led Security.

• Highly developed ability to communicate for impact at all levels, both verbally and written in order to inspire and energize a global diverse team.
• Highly developed ability to lead through influence rather than authority.
• A proven ability to lead from behind and empower the team.
• A high degree of intellectual flexibility and emotional intelligence in order to adapt and lead in ambiguity and navigate through organisational politics and personalities.
• An understanding and appreciation of working across different cultures or experience of working in an international environment.
• Ideally prior security-related management experience, coupled with a minimum of 5 years experience in a management position in the security department of a multi-national company. or alternative credible and relevant government experience
