The General Practitioner (GP) in Community Hospitals is required to deliver high quality medical care to patients in the Community Hospital wards by providing proactive medical assessment, advice, and treatment. NCIC has 6 Community Hospitals across North Cumbria. (Brampton, Penrith, Keswick, Cockermouth, Workington and the Copeland Unit in Whitehaven.) We are looking for a GP to work primarily on one site with coverage across them all as required.
The GP will provide medical care to patients admitted to the units, appropriately interact with and support the wider multidisciplinary team including nursing, social care, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, secondary care consultants; and any other agency to the benefit of patients.
The Hospital inpatient units offer assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, end of life care and support services that bridge the gap between health services currently delivered in patients homes and those services delivered within an acute hospital setting, To do this each community hospital has a multidisciplinary team who work together in this aim.
At NCIC, we have an ambition to deliver outstanding healthcare services to the population of North Cumbria. The Trust is committed to creating a centre of excellence in providing rural and remote healthcare and provides a wide range of community and acute services throughout our county.
Our 5 key principles demonstrate our belief in the delivery of safe, high quality care every time':
Being a clinically led organisation
Quality and safety at the heart of our Trust
A positive patient experience every time
A great place to work
Managing our money well
As an organisation we are serious about supporting a diverse workforce that reflects our local community and are very much focused on being an inclusive and compassionate place to work.
Across the North East and North Cumbria we are working together to deliver our ambition to be the greenest region in England by 2030. All staff are expected to support sustainability.
The wards have various amounts of beds. The GP will be expected to undertake proactive ward rounds and respond to concerns from patients or the MDT. They will need to see and assess new admissions, keep notes on Emis, prescribe using the trust ePMA system, refer and arrange investigations as appropriate, communicate effectively with patients, their relatives and the wider MDT, prescribe for discharge and ensure the patients GP is informed of the information they need to know on discharge.
The ward work is undertaken Monday to Friday during daytime hours. There is no expectation that the post holder will undertake on call or out of hours working.
The role offers opportunity to develop skills in elderly care and the management of frailty. Whilst the wards can be busy there is an opportunity to get to know the patients and their relatives, initiate and complete treatment for patients and provide continuity of care working as part of a team. There is paid study time to allow the development of additional interests or areas of expertise. We would be interested in considering candidates who would be able to work all of or a portion of the sessions.
