Position Title: WAVE Technical Systems Manager
Location: Washington DC Capital Region
Travel: 25%
Position Summary:
The WAVE Technical Systems Manager is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and sustainment of Motorola WAVE systems. This role oversees system support, maintenance, and operations updates to ensure secure and reliable voice communications across mobile, desktop, and interoperable platforms. The manager is tasked with maintaining system integrity, performing routine health checks, and ensuring compliance with security protocols and interoperability standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the planning, deployment, and sustainment of Motorola WAVE systems that extend P25 LMR capabilities to broadband devices (LTE, Wi-Fi, desktop).
- Oversee system architecture, configuration, and maintenance of WAVE servers, clients, and gateways to ensure reliable interoperability.
- Ensure secure and efficient integration between WAVE and P25 systems via ISSI/CSSI or donor radio interface, enabling seamless voice bridging.
- Configure and manage WAVE user groups, talkgroups, and roles in alignment with operational requirements and incident response protocols.
- Monitor WAVE system health, performance, and uptime through proactive diagnostics and system logs analysis.
- Manage encryption keys, access controls, and secure transmission settings for voice and data, adhering to federal cybersecurity standards.
- Oversee the day-to-day performance, configuration management, and system integrity of the WAVE push-to-talk (PTT) infrastructure.
- Conduct routine system health checks and perform software and firmware updates.
- Integrate WAVE systems with ASTRO 25 core and radio gateways.
- Coordinate with Motorola technical support for issue resolution and patch management.
- Ensure all endpoints, user groups, and channel configurations comply with security protocols and interoperability standards, including encryption, access control, and role-based provisioning.
- Coordinate software updates, patching, new features, and version upgrades in a test/staging environment prior to production deployment and maintain audit logs.
- Train and support field personnel, dispatchers, and IT teams on WAVE client usage (mobile, desktop, web), features, and best practices.
- Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, including configuration guides, SOPs, training materials, and change management records.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment of WAVE solutions.

Qualifications:
- Specialized expertise in the administration, maintenance, and sustainment of Motorola WAVE systems.
- Experience managing a Motorola WAVE system.
- Strong understanding of secure and reliable voice communications across mobile, desktop, and interoperable platforms.
- Proficiency in configuration management and system integrity practices.
- Knowledge of security protocols and interoperability standards, including encryption and access control.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance in accordance with agency requirements.

Certain states and localities require employers to post a reasonable estimate of salary range. A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $165,000.00 to $179,000.00 annually. Actual salary will be based on a variety of factors, including shift, location, experience, skill set, performance, licensure and certification, and business needs. The range for this position in other geographic locations may differ. Certain positions may also be eligible for variable incentive compensation, such as bonuses or commissions, that is not included in the base pay.
