Alternative Heat specialises in the design, supply, and installation of a wide range of Off-site Prefabricated solutions for the commercial M&E sectors throughout Ireland and UK. Through continuous investment within our teams, and our facilities, we have grown strongly over the years and established ourselves as a leader within the offsite pre-fabrication industry throughout Ireland and the UK.
Due to continued growth, we are looking to integrate a Welding QC Inspector to join our Team in our fabulous new Head Quarters based in Banbridge. This post is a permanent contract and offers an amazing opportunity for a candidate who wants to gain experience within a progressive and dynamic company.
About the role:
As a Welding QC Inspector, you will ensure all welding and fabrication work meets approved specifications and quality standards. You will perform quality stage inspections, factory acceptance testing, and escalate any issues to the Senior Welding Inspector.
Additionally, you will be responsible for ensuring that all quality stages are recorded on our electronic quality system, ensuring full traceability of all production items. During reviews, you may be required to present the quality process and information from previous similar jobs. The ideal candidate will have experience in welding inspection, quality control, and a strong understanding of fabrication processes within the M&E or manufacturing industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct quality stage inspections and factory acceptance testing.
- Ensure welding and fabrication meet approved drawings and specifications.
- Monitor welding operations to ensure compliance with quality and production standards.
- Recommend adjustments to the welding process when necessary.
- Inspect, test, measure, and report on welded materials and products.
- Ensure all quality checks are completed and recorded within the electronic quality system.
- Maintain full traceability of production items.
- Accept or reject finished welded components based on quality standards.
- Identify and document non-conformances, working with teams to implement corrective actions.
- Conduct visual and non-destructive testing (NDT) on welded components.
- Verify weld quality, dimensions, and compliance with required specifications.
- Identify defects such as cracks, porosity, and incomplete fusion, providing recommendations for repairs.
- Review welding procedures, materials, and welder qualifications.
- Present quality processes and findings from previous similar jobs during reviews.
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Perform any other duties deemed necessary by management.
Essential Criteria
- A minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience in a similar role within the M&E or manufacturing industries.
- CSWIP 3.0 certification.
- Effective leadership skills, including the ability to engage, develop, and motivate a team.
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office, specifically Excel.
- Strong understanding of quality control standards and testing techniques.
- Good mathematical and technical skills.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings accurately.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Good awareness of health and safety policies and procedures.
- Full UK driving license with access to own transport.
Desirable Criteria
- CSWIP 3.1 / 3.2 certification.
- GCSE Grade C or above in Mathematics and English Language or equivalent qualification.
- Certification in quality control is preferred.
- Experience of weld inspection.
- An understanding of Electrical or Mechanical Schematics.
- The ability to identify issues, analyse their root causes, and develop solutions.
- Additional NDT certifications (VT, PT, MT, UT).
- Familiarity with digital reporting and inspection software.
