Wider Achievement Development Officer (Outdoor Learning & Adventure Education Qualification) - fixed term until 31/07/2027
Bangholm Outdoor Centre
Salary: £39,129 - £46,023
Hours: 36 per week, 52 weeks
The City of Edinburgh Council is undertaking an exciting project to create a new outdoor learning and adventure education (OL&AE) S4/S5 accredited learning programme / qualification. This will be credit rated for the Scottish Credit and Qualifications framework (SCQF).
The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering two project phases (see attached resources). This is about building a programme / qualification from a blank canvas, meeting the needs of learners and schools. The project therefore requires significant and sustained initiative, problem solving and consultation to create a qualification from its very early stages.
We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate the required breadth and depth of competency to deliver a range of OL&AE activity. Experience in creating OL&AE programmes is essential. The ability to incorporate and meet credit rating requirements and liaise with the relevant bodies is also essential. The post requires excellent project management skills, delivering significant outcomes via a robust action plan and a demanding timeline. The successful applicant will bring energy, plus a passion for OL&AE and this project.
The role is integral to the Bangholm Outdoor Centre, which is part of the Council's OL&AE Team. An agreed, appropriate and proportionate involvement in wider OL&AE strategic work and core duties is expected and dependent on personal qualifications, training and experiences.
Please note, the attached Job Description is a generic Wider Achievement and Lifelong Learning Development Officer job description. For specific details of this role, see the attached person specification and details in this advert.
Flexible solutions, including secondments will be considered. Applicants must have approval for secondments from their line manager / employer before applying. Please note, this is a fixed term contract ending 31 July 2027 and the Local Government Employees pay scale applies.
The postholder will be required to regularly visit schools and other locations across the City and beyond with occasional visits to the Council's Benmore and Lagganlia Outdoor Centres. Significant time will be spent outdoors delivering activity. The allocated work office is Bangholm Outdoor Centre, Edinburgh.
We hope you are excited by the opportunity to create a legacy for OL&AE in Edinburgh and beyond. Please ensure any application, including a personal statement, is relevant and specific to this advert and attached information. Interviews are expected to take place week beginning 25 August. For further information which may support your application and any questions, please contact (Outdoor Learning and Adventure Education Team).
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
