How You'll Make a Difference
Assisting the Workshop Manager in the day-to-day management of the Workshop Team, you are responsible for ensuring resources are utilised effectively and that key performance is met.
The team carry out mechanical and electrical vehicle inspections, maintenance and repair work to council vehicles, MOT test preparations, defect identification and routine servicing and inspections.
What You Will Be Doing
- Daily you will supervise staff, this includes absence monitoring, appraisals, training and recruitment, deputising for the Workshop Manager as required.
- It will be your responsibility to allocate staff and resources in an effective, efficient and economical manner to meet service requirements and standards.
- Using your technical knowledge and expertise, you will analyse situations and arrange for works to be carried out within quality service guidelines and legislation, inspecting, monitoring and reporting on service standards and producing progress reports on work schedules.
- You will be resolving technical issues and respond to queries and complaints from customers, the public, partners and contractors ensuring that strong service delivery is maintained with a positive customer focus.
- A key part of the role is ensuring that safe systems of working are followed so that the safety of staff and customers is constantly monitored, risk assessments are undertaken, regulations are enforced, and relevant data is recorded.
- You will be a point of contact, communicating with external suppliers and contractors ensuring compliance with contract documents so that best value for money is obtained.
What We Need From You
- You will hold a Level 3 Certificate of Professional Competence in National Passenger Transport and National Road Haulage or equivalent or be actively working towards this.
- We require you to hold an NVQ Level 3 in vehicle maintenance and repair, or City and Guilds Level 1, 2 and 3 in a related trade or equivalent. You must also hold an HGV vocational Licence.
- You must be a qualified MOT tester and have experience of day-to-day operations of a VOSA registered authorised test facility.
- Having up to date knowledge of current legislative and technical issues, you will be familiar with procedures, policies around health and safety, monitoring budgets, financial information and resources.
- Given the elements of the role, you need to have proven experience of giving expert advice and guidance and the ability to supervise, motivate and develop a team, allocate work to others and perform absence monitoring, appraisals, training and recruitment.
- It is essential that you can identify problems and recommend workable and cost-effective solutions within time and resource constraints, following up with documentation to answer technical queries and provide technical support to others.
