About
Infinitesima came out of the University of Bristol in 2001 and has spent over two decades building metrology tools for the semiconductor industry. Its core product, the Rapid Probe Microscope (RPM), combines atomic force microscopy with high-speed laser activation and interferometry to measure 3D surface structures at sub-nanometer scale. The patent portfolio around it is extensive.
That level of precision matters because chipmakers are running out of room. As semiconductor structures get smaller and more complex, conventional measurement tools stop working well enough. Infinitesima's technology fills that gap, and it's being used by some of the larger equipment companies in the industry.
The company is based in Abingdon and has around 80 people. Investors include Applied Ventures, the venture arm of Applied Materials. Infinitesima holds a Skilled Worker visa sponsorship licence, so it's a real option for scientists and engineers considering roles in UK semiconductor technology.
