The main purpose of the Advanced Practitioner service is to provide a high quality easily accessible, timely and effective clinical service for patients within Lothian Hospitals Division. To work effectively as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, ensuring optimal patient care in an acute environment.

The post holder will utilise advanced clinical skills and knowledge incorporating a high level of critical thinking and clinical judgement skills. They lead on developing an impact evaluation on this service. This will involve working autonomously with high level of decision making and problem solving. They will lead this service improving practice underpinned with values based care.

Take the lead role providing clinical support and advice to nursing and junior medical staff acting whilst also acting as a first point of contact and making referrals to or co-ordinating with the other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Possess the full range of skills and competences to meet and prioritise emergency and urgent care needs of patients who are with

in the care of Medicine to cover a wide range of interventions and have the capacity to call in specialist expertise when a patient requires it.

Ensure the highest standard of personalised care is delivered to patients, families and work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team responsible within Acute Medicine.

Assess, plan and implement advanced level care and deliver and maintain optimal care outcomes.

Motivate staff to provide high standards of care by acting as a role model.

Provide advanced and specialist, education and training programmes for the multidisciplinary teams

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
