We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Lothianwide team of Clinical Scientists based across the city of Edinburgh. The Biochemistry service for Lothian is provided from 3 main hospital sites providing a comprehensive service to primary and secondary care. The service also accepts tertiary referrals for a range of specialist testing, including antenatal screening, gastrointestinal investigations, toxicology, specialist endocrinology and protein work.
You will assist the Head of Service in provision of a highly specialist clinical scientific service in Clinical Biochemistry within NHS Lothian (NHSL) and provide expert analytical, interpretive and clinical advice to medical, nursing and other laboratory staff in the acute and primary care divisions on the investigation

You will have overall responsibility for provision and management of a broad range of complex, specialised scientific investigations, demanding highly skilled performance and individual responsibility in this specialist area and undertake research, development and training within a specialist field of Clinical Biochemistry. Initially this will be in the proteins and gastrointestinal investigation sections of the laboratory. You will work autonomously within professional guidelines and may deputise for the Head of Department.
Applications are invited from dynamic individuals with a proven scientific and professional record and the enthusiasm to work as part of a team. You should be a HCPC registered Clinical Scientist, hold an appropriate MSc in Clinical Biochemistry or a PhD in a relevant field. Applicants with full membership of the Royal College of Pathologists or working towards full membership having successfully completed part 1 of the examination are eligible to apply.
