Accounts Payable Officer

Bristol Airport is in the midst of a bold and exciting transformation, supported by a £400m investment programme aimed at enhancing the airport experience for every passenger. To support this growth, we are seeking a motivated and technically capable Accounts Payable Officer to join our Finance team during this next stage of development.

This role is ideal for someone with experience in the Purchase Ledger function who enjoys working in a fast‑paced environment. You will play an important role in ensuring accurate and efficient processing of accounts payable activities while supporting wider business growth.

As an Accounts Payable Officer, you will:

• Manage the Purchase Ledger, ensuring supplier invoices are processed, approved in line with company policies, and paid within agreed terms
• Open and maintain supplier accounts, ensuring all supplier master data is accurate and up to date
• Prepare and process Purchase Ledger BACS payment runs and weekly NatWest Bankline payments
• Support the business to ensure Purchase Orders are raised for relevant costs, coded correctly, and goods/services are receipted on a timely basis
• Post bank payments to Purchase Ledger accounts
• Reconcile supplier statements and investigate and resolve reconciling items
• Verify Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) suppliers with HMRC
• Support the Management Accountants with month‑end cost accruals
• Review and process employee expense claims, ensuring appropriate approval and supporting documentation
• Provide ad hoc support and cover for other members of the Finance team when required

What we’re looking for:

Essential criteria

• Educated to A‑level standard or equivalent, with strong numerical ability
• AAT qualified or part‑qualified, or ACCA/CIMA part‑qualified
• Previous experience working in a Purchase Ledger / Accounts Payable role
• Ability to analyse and interpret large volumes of data and identify discrepancies
• Confidence formatting and presenting financial data clearly
• Good IT skills, with experience using accounting systems and intermediate to advanced Excel
• Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non‑finance colleagues
• Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and priorities
• A proactive approach and the ability to contribute effectively both independently and as part of a team
• High attention to detail and the ability to work accurately in a busy environment

Desirable criteria

• Experience of using Microsoft Dynamics 365
• Experience of using Adaptive or similar financial planning systems
• Experience of supporting or contributing to finance process improvements
