This is an exciting opportunity to join the Early Cancer Institute (ECI), University of Cambridge, a member Centre of the International Alliance for Cancer Early Detection (ACED), funded by Cancer Research UK. The ACED Programme aims to accelerate the development and evaluation of innovative approaches and technologies for the early detection of cancer.
The post holder will work as part of a wider research nursing team delivering the ACED Cohort and supporting studies within the ACED Clinic. The ACED Cohort is a large-scale research initiative designed to recruit and follow participants to enable research into cancer risk, early detection and diagnostic pathways. This role offers the opportunity to be at the cutting edge of early cancer detection research, supporting multiple studies and contributing to high-quality data and biosample collection.
The Research Nurse will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of research studies, including participant identification, informed consent, clinical procedures, sample collection, data entry and follow-up, in accordance with study protocols, SOPs and regulatory requirements. The post holder will work closely with senior research nurses, and clinicians to ensure studies are delivered efficiently and to a high standard.
In addition, the post holder will work closely with staff within the ACED Inequalities Theme, with a particular focus on increasing the diversity of participants recruited into ACED studies. This will include supporting research activities aimed at understanding and addressing barriers to research participation, engaging with under-represented communities, and contributing to the development of inclusive recruitment approaches. The role will may involve travel within East Anglia to support recruitment and engagement activities.
Applicants must hold a professional nursing qualification with current NMC registration and have post-registration experience in clinical research. A good understanding of research methodology, ethics, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and research governance is essential. The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and excellent communication skills, with a willingness to travel between to meet the needs of the programme.
