Description
We are looking for an animal technician to join our friendly, hardworking team and be actively involved in the daily care and maintenance of aquatic species within our busy biofacilities in Cambridge.

The role holder shall assist the NACWO in caring for the animals by performing general husbandry tasks and assist researchers with procedural requirements. The role holder shall be expected to maintain accurate records, complete daily observations and health monitoring, alongside general hygiene and cleaning tasks. They will also have responsibility, in liaison with researchers, provide technical assistance with both regulated and non-regulated experimental procedures. This will include working within multiple aquatics facilities, determined by the level of support required for both husbandry and procedures.

You will have previous experience working with laboratory animals, and previous experience working with fish is essential. Specific experience working with zebrafish, medaka or xenopus would be an advantage. Ideally, the successful candidate will hold a Home Office Personal Licence, or have completed Home Office licensee training (modules A-B) in order to apply for a licence. Previous experience performing regulated procedures and working within a CL2 or quarantine area is also desirable.

You should have good communication and interpersonal skills, able to work as part of a team, interacting with team colleagues and research staff at all levels. Demonstr
able knowledge of relevant Home Office legislation and concepts of animal technician work are also essential.

Where an applicant does not yet have experience working in a designated establishment or with laboratory animals but does have relevant experience working with aquatic species, we will still consider your application. The necessary training and support shall be provided to the applicant to attain the level of skill and experience necessary within an agreed period from appointment.

In addition to the base salary stated above, the successful candidate for this post will receive an additional 2.5% supplement to their pay.
