Job description


As a key member of the finance team within one of our three directorates, the postholder will undertake essential finance tasks to support the effective delivery of the team’s objectives. This will include:

  • Building and maintaining key relationships, developing trust and managing the expectations of senior managers and stakeholders.
  • Developing a good understanding of the business, seeking opportunities to understand how finance processes work and how they link to your apprenticeship studies.
  • Providing timely, accurate and clearly communicated financial information and analysis to support decision making.
  • Ensuring effective support and advice to the business. Engaging with other finance teams to identify and pursue opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Gaining confidence with DWP’s financial systems and processes, as well as wider public finance guidance and reporting requirements, sharing your expertise with others.

Essential Criteria


A strong candidate for this role should be able to demonstrate the following Essential Criteria:

  • Lead Criteria – A clear desire to build your career as a finance professional, with a passion for learning and self-development. You will have the ability to identify skills gaps and opportunities to address these.
  • Strong communication skills, using a variety of techniques to share and explain complex or technical information.
  • A track record of delivering high quality customer outcomes, working with stakeholders to set priorities, objectives and timescales for important pieces of work.
  • A team player who can collaborate, build relationships and ensure that everyone has a chance to input their views.
  • Digital and data confident using a range of systems and tools.


Qualifications


You must have GCSE passes in Maths and English as well as a Level 3 qualification or higher / equivalent. A level 3 qualification is equivalent to A Levels, T Levels or a BTEC, for example.
