- 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays)
- 5-year higher level degree apprenticeship (fixed term) course, aligned with the BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management.
- The training provider is to be UBE (University of the Built Environment) - level 6 apprenticeship course, starting in September 2025
- 37 hours per week.
You will be required to enrol on Apprenticeship training course – Chartered Surveyor Apprenticeship (degree) (level 6). Apprentices will be required to complete a Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) accredited BSc (Honours) degree. The postholder will also be required to enrol on the RICS APC and works towards full membership of the RICS.
What will I be doing?
We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. Your day-to-day work will involve:
- Assisting the Building Surveyor team in a range of building surveying duties for the council, to help to ensure that the council’s estate is managed and developed effectively.
- Assisting with site inspections to review defects and compliance issues.
- Assisting with scoping and specifying repair, remedial and capital improvement works for delivery by internal or external trades.
- Preparing plans and drawings for proposed works using AutoCAD where required.
The role will require frequent travel across Somerset, with lone working subject to risk assessments.
What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you have:
- an understanding of building surveying principles and practices.
- a construction related qualification or in a related field.
- a demonstrative aptitude for learning and the ability to develop technical skills and areas of knowledge.
- 2D/3D CAD drawings skills and experience.
The entry requirements for this course are as follows:
- Tariff points: 112
- GCSE: GCSE: Grade C/4 or above in English and Mathematics, or equivalent (we accept Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths).
- A-level subjects: Points from A-level General Studies and AS-level subjects (not taken onto full A-level) can be included towards overall tariff. You must have a minimum of two A-levels. No specific subjects required.
- EDEXCEL (BTEC) Diploma: No specific subjects required.
- Access: No specific subjects required.
- Baccalaureate IB: No specific subjects required.
- T Levels: No specific subjects required.
