Purpose of the role

Colas Ltd. have an exciting opportunity for a Engineer to join the Asset team based in Portsmouth (PO6 1TA). This role will be central to coordinating tree‑related asset reports, supporting site validation for handback, managing proactive maintenance activities and contributing to pavement data analysis. You will also play an important part in updating and maintaining AMS (Asset Management System) documentation for the Portsmouth network. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their expertise within a hands‑on engineering and asset management environment.

Main Responsibilities

As an Asset Engineer, you will support the accuracy and upkeep of the asset register, assist with proactive maintenance planning and contribute to drainage asset reviews. You will carry out sensitivity assessments for road deflections, support tree asset updates and help manage a range of other street assets including benches, bollards and bins. Your work will include site validation activities for handback, accident analysis locations and surfacing profile assessments, as well as assisting with pendulum testing and retroreflectivity testing for road markings. You will also contribute to the ongoing update of AMS documentation and undertake any additional responsibilities assigned by the Asset Manager. Throughout all duties, you will ensure safe working practices for yourself, colleagues and visitors.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will bring either an HNC in Civil or Transport Engineering (or equivalent experience), and a full driving licence would be beneficial for this role. We are also open to candidates who have studied data or have experience working as a Data Analyst, as the role involves significant data validation, asset analysis and technical reporting.

Experience or knowledge of visual condition surveys, UK PMS standards, highway maintenance or asset management principles would be advantageous, although full training will be provided. An understanding of surfacing materials is similarly desirable but not essential. Strong ICT skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel, and a good understanding of health and safety are important for success in this role. Above all, we are looking for someone proactive, analytical and keen to develop their skills across a varied and hands‑on asset engineering environment.
