Salary: £51,014 - £60,016

Location: London - Hybrid, (2 days in our London office, 3 days working from home)

Contract type: Permanent

Hours: Full-time



An exciting opportunity to work as part of the in-house legal advisory team.


The post-holder will provide accurate and timely legal advice to the General Dental Council on a wide variety of legal issues, including fitness to practise matters, illegal practice cases and registration appeals.


Areas of Responsibility:


  • Provide accurate, timely and risk-based advice to GDC colleagues and Council in respect of the Dentists Act 1984 and subordinate legislation, public law matters and other relevant
  • Contribute to the conduct of legal challenges by and to the GDC, including judicial reviews and appeals brought by the Professional Standards
  • Contribute to the provision of legal advice in respect of fitness to practise matters, supporting internal specialist
  • Contribute to the provision of legal advice in respect of information issues, supporting internal specialist
  • Review and provide critical comment on draft legislation prepared by the Department of
  • Support the team’s commitment to continuous improvement, by working within and identifying improvements to KPIs, quality assurance and reporting processes.


Person specification:


  • Strong legal analytical skills, with a proven ability to analyse complex issues and present legally sound, concise and pragmatic
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage own workload independently.
  • Experience of advising on public law and/or regulatory law issues either as part of an in-house team or in private
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to create strong working relationships at all levels of the GDC and with external stakeholders, and to be an effective team member.
  • Demonstrable commitment to relevant continuous professional development and to sharing knowledge and experience with
  • Ensure compliance with GDC’s policies and statutory obligations with regard to data protection, equalities and diversity, health and safety, and
